Tung started smoothly with skillful technique and gentle moves to finish perfectly in the final round of his favourite vault event.

His performance earned him a score of 14.750 points, following gold medalist Asato Keisuke from Japan with 14.900 points.

Fellow vaulter young Nguyen Tuan Dat ranked fourth, following bronze medalist Verniaiev Oleg from Ukraine.

Heach coach of artistic gymnastics team Truong Minh Sang said this year’s cup includes many strong participants, so the competition is intense.

“The outcome Tung got at Challenge Cup made me feel sad for him, as he passed even the score of the gold medalist at Asiad (14.620). He deserved to win, but lost that chance in Asiad.

Yet, that’s the way sports is and we have no better solution than keep practising,” said Sang. — VNS
