The market for votive offerings in Hanoi is filled with the hustle and bustle of quick commerce as Kitchen God Day (on the 23rd of the last month of the lunar year) nears.
Traditional votive objects such as paper clothing, robes, hats, boots, carp, money and gold, as well as incense and candles are offered for sale on Hang Ma Street and at markets throughout Hanoi.
A wide range of offerings are available for the same price as last year.
As usual, traders prepared a supply of goods many days ago to ensure they can meet the customers’ demands.
Nguyen Thi Mai, a trader on Nguyen Thiep Street in Hoan Kiem District, says local people have been buying their offerings for Kitchen God Day since the fifteenth day of the last lunar month.
Scenes of vendors selling votive objects for the Kitchen God Day are a common sight along Hanoi’s streets.
In addition to more traditional products, other paper offerings such as villas, Lexus cars, motorbikes, TVs, fridges, and iPhones are on sale.
Hanoians are busy with purchasing all they need for Kitchen God Day.
