Hanoi: Drivers fall in slippery Kim Lien Underpass

Last update: 14:53 | 07/12/2017

Dozens of motorbike drivers skidded and fell off their bikes in the Kim Lien Underpass in Hanoi on Thursday morning.

According to local people, the problem began at around 9 am when many motorbikes fell on the wet and slippery surface.

"It seems very difficult to drive here," a witness said. "I saw dozens of motorbikes lost control and fell at the same time. A man had his arm broken and was rushed to hospital while most people weren't hurt as they went at a slow pace."

At 10 am, the underpass surface was covered by a thin layer of black and oily water. Despite direction from traffic police, the road faced serious congestion.

A traffic police officer said that there was water leaking from a side of the passage which caused the surface to become slippery.

A local man said that the leak has occurred for a week and some people have been seen falling over the past few days.

"We hope the local authorities will soon come to fix the problem and give warnings to drivers here," he said.
