The programme, The Friday 9 music, includes more than 25 foreign and Vietnamese musicians and singers of the Saigon IDECAF Acoustica Troupe.

Featured artists include American drummer Ronnie Williams and bass player Steve Desvaux Desire.

Young Vietnamese talents, including violinist Nguyen Dan Cat Du, pianist Minh Dang, and singers Dong Lan, Vo Le Vy and Ho Quang Hung, are also included.

More than 200 people attended their first show last week at the IDECAF Music Hall in District 1.

The artists performed popular foreign works, including Je T’aime, La Vie en Rose and Nocturne, remixed by Philadelphia-based Mario Trane. They also performed Vietnamese works written for the orchestra.

The programme’s producer, photographer and theatre director Le Thanh Hai, said: “I worked with my friend, guitarist, mixer and music producer Mario, who has more than 25 years in the industry, to bring The Friday 9 music to music lovers, particularly young audiences.”

“We want to help young people learn more about classical music,” said Hai, who spent his own money on the production.

Hai worked with pianist Le Nhat Quang to produce The Rainbow - Cau Vong, a classical music concert which was staged monthly at the HCM City Opera House last year.

“We will work with tourist agencies to offer shows aimed at foreign tourists,” he said.

The concerts of The Friday 9 music will be held at IDECAF Music Hall, 28 Le Thanh Ton Street, District 1. Tickets for the next show at 8pm on July 30 are available at the box office.
